Mainly, the export of the Russian coal by sea is carried out through the ports of CIS and Baltic countries. In 2009, about 48 mio mt of all types of the Russian coal were handled at such ports of the westward. SUEK AG engages the following ports for loading the coal destined for the European countries:

Westward – 1.1 mio mt per month

MURMANSK (UK, ARA, France, Germany)

SAINT-PETERBURG (UK, ARA, Scandinavia)

UST-LUGA – terminal MRC (UK, ARA, Scandinavia)

  • Port of Murmansk
  • Port of Saint-Petersburg
  • Port of Ust-Luga (terminal OJSC “Multipurpose Reloading Complex”)

Port of Ust-Luga (terminal OJSC “Multipurpose Reloading Complex”) is located in the Luga Bay of the Gulf of Finland, Baltic Sea, being about 120 km far from Saint-Petersburg city. This terminal has been constructed as a part of universal port named OJSC “Ust-Luga sea merchant port” with potential aggregated capacity  up to 120 mln tons of various cargoes annually starting from 2015

The water area of the Port freezes from the end of December till the middle of April (depending on the atmospheric temperature). Strictly ice-class vessels are allowed for loading in the Port during this period of time. The Port remains ice-free during the rest of a year.

The Terminal has 1 berth of 350 m in length as a facility for handling of coal and it is adapted for loading up to Panamax vessels. The permitted draft at the berth is 13.5 m on the zero water level with positional increasing up to 14.5 m. Moreover, the Terminal is equipped for cleaning of coal from metal admixtures.

As to SUEK AG, we contracted with the Port for handling of 1.5 mio mt of coal annually, 90 % of which are for delivery on CIF and DES terms.
