Railway Deliveries
Fairelatively sizeable amount of coal is exported from Russia by railway directly to the countries of destination.
However, the cost of railway transportation is considerably higher than the cost of seaborne deliveries and therefore it is economically reasonable to handle this type of export only towards the neighboring countries. As a consequence, Russian coal is used to be railed to Eastern Europe, Ukraine and Baltic countries.
Other obstacles for developing export of our coal by rail are the capacity of the cross-border stations and difference in width of the gauge in Russia and European countries, which requires either wheels substitution or reloading of coal from wagons to wagons.
