Kuzbass

The biggest producing area of export coal in Russia is the Kuzbass region. This region is situated in the south part of Siberia. Coal of all types is mined there, from anthracite to coking coal.

In 2009, the Kusbass mines and open-pit mines produced all together about 180 mio mt of different types of coal (about 3% less than in 2008), 80 mio mt of which were exported seaborne.

OJSC "SUEK" operates 9 mines and 3 open-pit mines in the Kuzbass region gaining the production output of about 30 mio mt per year (of them coal from 8 mines and 1 open-pit is delivered for export). Thereat, the annual volume of the Kuzbass exportable coal is about 20 mio mt.
